Director Matt Reeves has revealed the first look at Robert Pattinson in the new Batsuit for "The Batman". I've been awaiting this with a lot of excitement ever since Pattinson was announced in the titular role back in May 2019, and this camera test footage has left me counting down the days until June 2021.
At first, I felt that the style of the leather mask along with the red light filter clashed too much with Marvel's DareDevil show on Netflix. We didn't quite get a full reveal of the suit either (no reveal of the iconic cowls just yet). However, there's a few things going with the influences of the suit design that's really interesting for me. The first is that the red light filter is a clear visual link with the "Batman: Dark Victory" series that ran from 1999-2000.
Several people on twitter have picked up on the pattern of what the next few character reveals could be too. If so, then this would be great to see over the coming months.
More influences have been spotted from armoured suit design of the fantastic "Batman: Arkham Knight" video game and series. I think it's just speculation at the moment, nothing has been confirmed from any of the "The Batman" cast and crew, but the material used for the bat symbol across the suit's chest could be pieces of the very gun that killed Bruce Wayne's parents (taken from Detective Comics No. 1000). It acts as a constant reminder of the Bat's origin, why he fights to clean up Gotham City and also perhaps why the character is anti-gun.
